Unique to the PC-Camlink is 16MB of on-board memory
which maintains the required high data transfer rates
while minimizing CPU utilization and risk of data loss.
On-board real-time image re-sequencing for multi-tap
digital cameras significantly reduces host CPU burden,
thereby giving the host more time to process and analyze
image data. PC-CamLink is capable of bus mastering image
data directly to the host PC memory as lines become
available. PC-CamLinks ability to provide data
in 4:2:2 image format means that it is able to deliver
non-destructive overlay on live images with almost no
load on the host CPU - a first and only in the industry!
Camera Link
Camera Link is a newly adopted standard for high-speed
serial data transmission created by an alliance of camera
and frame grabber manufacturers. Camera Link was developed
to address the problems long associated with digital
cameras such as high cable costs, short transmission
distances, and non-standard interfaces. Based on the
high-speed serial LVDS interface developed by National
Semiconductor, the on-board Camera Link interface provides
a fast, easy-to-use way to connect to high-speed digital
cameras. The fact that Camera Link is a serial interface
vs. the previously used parallel interface, pin count,
cable diameter, and cable costs are greatly reduced.
Successful transmission distances of up to 10 meters
can be accomplished.
