| The
DOAL is an on-axis lighting system from Northeast Robotics that
isused for illuminating reflective objects. With the DOAL, light
rays reflect off the beam splitter directly on to the object
at 90°. Using this approach, specular surfaces perpendicular
to the camera appear illuminated, while surfaces at an angle
to the camera appear dark. Non-specular surfaces absorb light
and appear dark.
DOALs provide diffuse, uniform illumination
for flat specular surfaces. By providing greater uniformity
than conventional sources, DOALs increase machine vision accuracy
and repeatability up to 200%.
