A clear plastic map pin is illuminated with a normal standard backlight making the outline indistinct. Under collimated backlight illumination, the object becomes a clearly defined sillhouette.
The capacitor below is being viewed first with a standard backlightand and stray light rays are illuminating the edges of the component making accurate measurements difficult. Under collimated illumination, the component again becomes a clearly defined sillhouette.
